Muscat – A medical team from the Pediatric Surgery Unit at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) succeeded in performing an operation for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman through a laparoscopic technique – Neomo Physicam – for a minor girl suffering from regurgitation on the left side between the ureter and the bladder.
The girl, who was one year and five months old, was suffering from frequent urinary infections, and after doing the necessary examinations and x-rays, it was found that she suffers from the presence of two pelvises and two ureters in the left kidney, in addition to the presence of scars in the kidney and reflux between the ureter and the bladder.
The team, led by Dr Zainab bint Nasser al Balushi, senior consultant and head of the Pediatric Surgery Unit, performed the operation using the Neomo Physicam technique through an incision in the bladder wall and transplantation of the left ureter using an endoscope, without resorting to an incision.
“The operation was successful without risks during or after the operation, and the girl left the hospital within 24 hours of the operation. The efforts of the medical team that performed the operation is apprecaited. This achievement is a matter of pride for everyone,” Dr Zainab said.
