Oman Woman of the Year 2020

Sahar Askalan, the late founder and managing partner of S A Legal, was a UK qualified solicitor-advocate who had been trained and advocated in courts and before arbitration tribunals in the UK. She had graduated from Boston University of Massachusetts and obtained her dual post-graduate professional qualification from BPP Law School, London, in 2000.

Sahar had comprehensive local and international legal experience. She worked at top-tier international law firms – Allen & Overy (London),Theodore Goddard (at present Addleshaw Goddard, London), Clifford Chance (Paris) and Richard’s Butler (Abu-Dhabi) where she gained experience working in project finance, joint ventures, real estate, tourism and litigation. Her main area of expertise is in project finance where she advised on a variety of structures for major projects including infrastructure, pipelines, hotels, and the financing of each.

Upon her return to Oman, Sahar has worked as a corporate lawyer in private practice and in-house for a tourism development entity gaining a thorough knowledge of Omani laws and regulations. Thereafter, Sahar ventured into opening her office – S A Legal – in order to provide the leading legal services she had been trained to provide. Sahar was the first Omani woman to open her own legal practice in the Sultanate of Oman. Being an Omani with international legal experience, She always strived to raise the standards of legal practice in Oman.

Under her managerial expertise, S A Legal has flourished and is today one of the premier legal outfits in Oman, working with a top-tier national and international clientele. However, the most fulfilling aspect of her professional identity, was the impact she was able to have on the lives of ambitious women and girls throughout Oman. Now, her family have made sure that Sahar’s legacy thrives by continuing the zeal and mission of her legal establishment.
