Muscat – The Oman Ice Sports Committee marked International Women’s Day in a unique and spirited way, hosting its annual “Global Game for Girls” ice hockey event. The gathering began with a group Iftar, blending the communal spirit of the holy month with athletic celebration, followed by a friendly match on the ice.
Players gathered for the event, dividing into the White and Blue teams for a competitive showcase. The Oman Girls Ice Hockey team is led by Captain Alfirdaus Alkindi, with Khulood Ambusaidi serving as assistant captain, supported by a lineup featuring Dalal Ambusaidi, Zina Aljabri, Layal Alajmi, Aysal Waheed, Erileck Cameron, Mariangel Delgado,Aya Al Magrouqi, Sara Bakheet, khadija Al Riyami, Fatma Al Al Hahajri, Ira Amit, Fajer Al Amri , Mawada ,Nahlla and Mariam Al Siddiqi. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ahmed Al Lawati and Assist coach Gregory Cameron, the match served as a crucial platform for development. It provided the athletes with a valuable opportunity to apply technical skills learned in training within a real-game context.
The “Global Game for Girls” is itself an initiative overseen by the IIHF, aimed at encouraging female participation in hockey across the world. The event fosters cooperation and a positive sporting environment.
Other key highlight of the day was the group Iftar held before the match, bringing together players and officials, the meal strengthened bonds of camaraderie and friendship off the ice. It added a meaningful social dimension to the sporting event, blending the values of togetherness with the excitement of the game.
