Muscat – Omani authorities responded to separate drone and maritime incidents on Wednesday, intercepting aerial threats near key coastal areas and rescuing sailors from a vessel targeted off the country’s coast.

A security source confirmed that one drone was shot down while another fell into the sea north of Duqm. No casualties or material damage were reported.

The source added that several drones were intercepted, while others struck fuel tanks at the Port of Salalah. Authorities said there were no injuries and that relevant agencies are monitoring the situation and taking measures to counter such attacks and safeguard the security of the nation, its citizens and residents.

In a separate development, the Maritime Security Center reported that the merchant vessel Mayuree Naree, flying the flag of Thailand, was targeted about 13 nautical miles off Oman’s coast.

A ship of the Royal Navy of Oman responded to the incident and evacuated 20 Thai nationals from the vessel. According to the report, crew members sustained varying injuries.
