Muscat – H H Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, received Dr Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and his accompanying delegation at his office on Thursday. The meeting took place during the Director-General’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman to discuss strategic interests.

During the audience, both sides reviewed the existing cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the FAO, specifically focusing on the agricultural, fisheries, and food sectors. The discussions explored various ways to develop and strengthen this partnership in a manner that aligns with Oman’s national priorities and supports the achievement of global sustainable development goals.

H H the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs emphasised the vital importance of the FAO’s continued efforts in implementing programmes and initiatives designed to enhance global food security. He further highlighted the need to address the challenges currently affecting the sustainability of food supply chains, particularly in light of rapid and unpredictable global changes.

For his part, the Director-General of the FAO expressed his sincere appreciation for the significant role the Sultanate of Oman plays in supporting international efforts related to food security. He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Oman and exchanging expertise to contribute effectively to sustainable development objectives.
