Dubai, UAE – Oman took a leading role in the 8th Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD) Ministerial Consultation, held in Dubai as part of the World Government Summit 2026. Representing Oman in its capacity as the current chair of the dialogue, H E Dr Mahad bin Saeed Baawain, Minister of Labour, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the critical necessity of regional and international cooperation. H E Baawain highlighted that the exchange of expertise and best practices remains essential for refining policies governing temporary contractual labour mobility, ensuring that such frameworks provide mutual benefits for both employees and employers while stimulating economic growth in both sending and receiving nations.

The ministerial session facilitated extensive discussions between Asian labour-sending countries and GCC receiving states regarding the evolving landscape of the Asia-GCC labour corridor. Key priorities addressed during the summit included the profound impact of climate change on global labour markets and the strategic movement of skilled workers to support a just transition toward green economies. Furthermore, delegates examined the emerging challenges faced by migrant workers within the gig economy and digital platforms, alongside the vital role that skill diversity plays in driving overall workplace productivity.

Leading up to the ministerial assembly, Omani representatives participated in senior-level preparatory meetings to review technical outputs and research agendas developed in collaboration with international partner organisations. The summit concluded with the adoption of the Eighth Joint Ministerial Declaration, reaffirming a collective commitment to improving labour governance and aligning mobility goals with sustainable development targets.
