ROP announces partial road closures for Muscat Marathon

22 Jan 2026 ROP announces partial road closures for Muscat Marathon By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Royal Oman Police (ROP), via the Department of Security Relations and Media, has officially declared a series of partial road closures across the capital to facilitate the Muscat Marathon 2026. These traffic restrictions are scheduled for Friday, January 23, with most beginning at 6:00 am and continuing until midday. The event, which has moved its central hub to Al Khuwair Square this year, will impact several major arterial routes and residential districts within the Wilayat of Bawshar.

Key closures include the section from Ministries Square through the Al Khuwair bridge, extending towards Qurum Beach and the commercial district. Specific residential areas such as Qurum Heights, Ras Al Hamra, and Al Qurum Fouhud will face restricted access until 9:45 am, though exit routes via Al Shati Street and Al Fouhud Street will be maintained for local inhabitants. Further restrictions will affect Al Saruj Street and Jamiat Al Duwal Al Arabiah Street until 11:00 am, where no entry will be permitted via the Al Wazarat Roundabout or Al Kharjiyah Street.

In Ghubrah, Al Izdihar Street will be inaccessible from the Ministries District until 11:45 am, while access to and from 18th November Street will remain open throughout the proceedings. These measures support a wider urban vision promoted by Muscat Municipality, which encourages sustainable mobility and smarter transportation choices to reduce city congestion and environmental impact. Commuters are strongly advised to utilise managed crossing points and plan alternative routes to avoid significant delays during the race period.
