June 2026 deadline for licensing compliance in energy and minerals sector

7 Dec 2025 June 2026 deadline for licensing compliance in energy and minerals sector  By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced a grace period for workers and establishments in 44 selected professions in the energy and minerals sector to regularise their professional licensing status.

The decision follows the requirement introduced on September 1, obligating workers in specific energy and minerals sector roles to obtain a professional practice licence through the Oman Energy Society, represented by the Sector Skills Unit for the energy and minerals sector, as a condition for issuing or renewing work permits.

The ministry confirmed that the grace period will remain in effect until June 1, 2026, during which companies and workers are urged to complete all licensing procedures. Work permits will continue to be issued or renewed for both licensed and unlicensed workers during this phase. However, from June 1, 2026, no work permit will be issued or renewed for any profession subject to licensing without a valid professional practice licence issued by the Sector Skills Unit.

The ministry underscored the importance of complying with the deadlines to ensure business continuity and alignment with labour market regulations.

‘We urge everyone to adhere to the specified deadlines to ensure the continuity of operations and full compliance with labour market requirements,’ the ministry emphasised. For the full list visit www.mol.gov.om
