Muscat – H E Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, on Sunday received Yacine el Mahdi Oualid, Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, for talks on strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

H E Habsi welcomed the Algerian delegation and underlined the importance of sustained joint work in agriculture, fisheries and water resources. He noted the depth of Oman–Algeria relations and their steady development.

Oualid expressed his appreciation for Oman’s achievements in agriculture and fisheries and emphasised Algeria’s interest in enhancing cooperation, particularly through the exchange of expertise in agriculture, marine fishing and rural development.

During the meeting, officials reviewed a visual presentation titled ‘Achievements in the agricultural, fisheries and water resources sectors for 2024’, outlining major national projects and initiatives implemented during the year. A second presentation, delivered by Abdul Aziz al Shukaili, Director of the Investment Department, highlighted Oman’s current efforts to strengthen its food security system and ensure the sustainability of essential supplies.

A joint presentation on Omani–Algerian Cooperation Opportunities in the Agricultural Sector followed, during which experts from both sides outlined potential areas for investment. These included desert soil management, precision agriculture, date cultivation, tropical fruits, and opportunities for developing horticulture and agricultural transformation.

The meeting concluded with discussions on future areas of cooperation and ways to advance joint initiatives. Both sides agreed on the need for continued coordination in research and technical programmes to support sustainable food security and contribute to the development of vital sectors in both countries.
