UN supports Trump’s Gaza peace plan

18 Nov 2025 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Washington, US – The UN Security Council has approved a landmark, US drafted resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s comprehensive 20 point proposal designed to bring an end to the two year conflict in Gaza. The resolution, which passed after both Russia and China abstained, authorises the deployment of an international stabilisation force and the immediate establishment of a transitional “Peace Council” to oversee the region’s recovery and economic reconstruction.

The initial stage of the initiative calls for an immediate ceasefire and the exchange of remaining Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and detainees. Israel and the Palestinian faction Hamas reportedly consented to this first phase last month.

Reaction has been divided. The Palestinian Authority welcomed the decision, expressing readiness to participate in its implementation. However, the resolution caused controversy in Israel, as its text suggests a potential future path toward a Palestinian state. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reasserted his government’s firm opposition to a Palestinian state and vowed to disarm Gaza. Conversely, Hamas and allied factions rejected the move, denouncing it as a ‘dangerous step’ that imposes foreign guardianship and favours Israeli interests.
