Muscat – Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has completed 14 national projects valued at RO464mn across several governorates, generating about 1,350 jobs in water, industry and food security.

In the water sector, Nama Water Services carried out four major schemes to enhance  transmission lines in Dakhliyah, North Batinah, South Batinah, North Sharqiyah and South Sharqiyah. The project aims to improve supply efficiency in areas experiencing population growth and rising industrial demand through to 2040.

The works included new transmission networks linking stations and wilayats, along with strategic reservoirs and pumping stations. The total cost exceeded RO408mn. Local value add surpassed RO112mn through contracts with domestic suppliers, including more than RO44mn awarded to small and medium enterprises. The projects created 698 direct jobs for Omanis.

In the industrial sector, the Ladayn Polymer Park Project, in cooperation with Madayn, attracted nine private sector ventures worth RO39mn. OQ Group will supply polymer feedstock through Liwa Plastics Industries Complex, and operations are expected to begin by year-end. The projects will add over 500 direct and indirect jobs and support self-sufficiency in industrial products, producing engineering polymers, packaging materials, medical-grade components, automotive parts and other engineering outputs.

In the food security sector, Nakheel Oman Development Company completed the RO17mn Dates Industrial Complex in Nizwa. The facility covers 35,000sqm and handles post-harvest procedures including transportation, cleaning, storage, sorting, packing and processing, with capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes a year.

The site incorporates an environment friendly design using solar energy and water recycling. It includes processing halls, production lines and a weighing and shipping station, serving as a central hub for dates, vegetables and fruits. The complex has provided 150 direct and indirect jobs. Its products are marketed under the ‘Tamrah’, ‘Nizwa’ and ‘Zaad al Dar’ brands, reaching consumers through cafés, retail outlets and other channels.

OIA said the projects reflect its role as the sultanate’s investment arm in supporting development programmes that align with national policies focused on stimulating growth and advancing local value. These form part of the National Development Portfolio, which includes more than 160 companies operating across key sectors.

According to Mulham Basheer al Jarf, Deputy-President for Investments at OIA, the projects stem from the authority’s strategy to drive diversification and priority sector growth under Vision 2040. He added that OIA aims to bolster the investment climate by working with subsidiaries and the private sector to expand opportunities across governorates.

Jarf added that the distribution of projects across governorates underscores OIA’s commitment to decentralisation and directing investments to achieve geographic balance in development. The projects have clear economic and social objectives, including enhancement of local content, creation of employment and business opportunities for citizens, development of national talent, and empowerment of small and medium enterprises, all of which support diversification efforts and strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the national economy.
