Rustaq – South Batinah is set to hold an event called ‘Experience South Batinah’ featuring a sand sports championship aimed at boosting domestic tourism and stimulating local economic activity.
South Batinah Governor’s Office has invited specialised companies to bid for rights to conduct and manage the championship, with October 29 set as the deadline for submitting proposals.
An official from the Governor’s Office said the event will feature a variety of exciting and innovative activities designed for adventure seekers and sports enthusiasts.
Highlights include four-wheel drive challenge races, classic and vintage car displays, and electric vehicle competitions that underscore the growing focus on environmental sustainability and clean technologies.
The event will include drone shows and remote-controlled car competitions – activities that appeal to young people and families alike.
“These events are part of the governorate’s wider strategy to consolidate its position as a key destination for sports and entertainment events in Oman,” the official said. “South Batinah’s diverse terrain and sandy beaches make it an ideal setting for such experiences.”
The sand games championship is expected to boost seasonal tourism, support local entrepreneurs and create temporary job opportunities, while also promoting community participation. “Through such initiatives, the governorate aims to present a new model of events that combine entertainment, adventure and innovation,” the official added.
The governorate recorded a 15.8% increase in visitors to its tourist and historical sites in 2024, welcoming 56,203 visitors compared to 48,493 in 2023, according to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
