7 Oct 2025 Oman, Belarus pledge stronger economic, cultural ties

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, focusing on economic cooperation, cultural exchange and people-to-people engagement.

In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of His Majesty the Sultan’s state visit to Belarus on October 6 and 7, the two leaders highlighted the importance of developing cooperation in education and culture to deepen mutual understanding between the peoples of both countries.

They noted that joint industrial projects under development would positively influence economic relations, building on Oman’s logistics potential and modern infrastructure. Discussions covered progress made on agreements reached during high-level visits in 2024–2025 across sectors such as food security, agriculture, industry, logistics, healthcare, tourism and culture.

Both sides welcomed efforts to expand trade and diversify imports and exports, including Belarusian food products, machinery, pharmaceuticals and veterinary supplies, as well as Omani goods of interest to Belarus. They also reviewed ongoing initiatives in infant formula and dairy production, and machinery assembly in Oman.

The leaders expressed readiness to broaden investment cooperation in agriculture, information technology, furniture manufacturing, and pulp and paper production. They also celebrated the signing of an agreement in May 2025 to establish a Joint Committee on Cooperation and Investment, which will coordinate the implementation of bilateral projects.

The two sides emphasised the value of direct charter flights on the Minsk–Salalah–Minsk route, launched in February 2025, to promote tourism and people-to-people exchanges. They further welcomed the signing of a mutual visa exemption agreement and called for stronger engagement between business communities through exhibitions, fairs and national showcases in both countries.

The leaders underlined the importance of establishing a solid legal framework to support future cooperation and reaffirmed their shared positions on key global and regional issues. They underscored adherence to the UN Charter and international law, and their readiness to work together within international organisations to promote a multipolar and equitable global order. Both sides also rejected the use of unilateral coercive measures and sanctions.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him in Belarus and invited President Lukashenko to visit Oman.
