Oman’s Saif al Rushaidi to represent Asia on UCI board

Kigali, Rwanda – Saif Subaa al Rushaidi, Chairman of Oman Cycling Association and Vice-President of Asian Cycling Confederation, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) for the 2025–2029 term. He secured 30 out of 40 votes during the 194th UCI Elective Congress held on Thursday in Kigali, Rwanda coinciding with the first UCI Road World Championships organised on the African continent.

Rushaidi will represent Asia on the UCI board, marking a significant achievement for Oman in international cycling governance.

The congress also re-elected David Lappartient for a third four-year term as UCI president. The new UCI management committee was elected to serve the next four years, with representatives from all continental confederations, including Khireddine Barbari (Africa), Pierre Laflamme (Pan-America), Michel Callot, Rocco Cattaneo, Henrik Jess Jensen, Agata Lang-Lelangue, Emin Muftuoglu, Katerina Nash, Tom Van Damme (Europe) and Anne Gripper (Oceania).

Rushaidi’s election reflects Oman’s growing presence in global sports administration and its commitment to promoting cycling at regional and international levels.

The meeting also confirmed host cities for upcoming world championships:

– 2026 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships –  Barcelona, Spain

– 2026 UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships – Derby, UK

– 2028 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

– 2028 UCI Track World Championships – Asuncion, Paraguay

– 2029–2032 championships in disciplines including Cyclo-cross, Para-cycling, Mountain Bike and Gran Fondo across Europe, the Americas and Asia
