Muscat – The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) has issued a strong warning urging the public not to participate in or assist human trafficking crimes. ‘Do not be an accomplice to the crime,’ it alerted.

The statement, released on Tuesday, is part of the national awareness campaign ‘Aman’, launched in July 2025 by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. Running for three months, the campaign aims to raise public awareness on human trafficking, inform workers and employers of their rights and obligations, and encourage community cooperation to curb such practices.

GFOW also unveiled a public awareness poster under the initiative, outlining the legal consequences of involvement in trafficking-related activities. Violations include withholding workers’ passports, harbouring offenders or aiding their escape, forced labour, denying workers their basic rights, dealing with the proceeds of trafficking, and concealing evidence.

Under Omani law, individuals convicted of assisting or covering up human trafficking crimes face prison terms ranging from six months to three years and fines of RO300 to RO1,000. These penalties apply to anyone who knowingly shelters offenders, handles illicit gains or contributes to concealing evidence.
