Organised in partnership with Makeen and Majan Academy, the workshop will be held from September 7 to 11 at Majan Academy in Al Khoud.
The programme aims to develop practical skills in satellite data analysis, remote sensing and related technologies, supporting Oman’s strategic and economic sectors. Participants will gain hands-on experience in analysing satellite imagery, applying machine learning techniques, and using geographic information systems (GIS) for national planning and resource management.
Sessions will cover topics such as oil spill detection, flood and erosion monitoring, water resource management, and tracking illegal poaching. Training will also include operating ground stations, data reception, and development of customised solutions to address challenges in transportation, agriculture, energy, fisheries and tourism. The workshop will conclude with an integration project, giving participants the opportunity to develop practical solutions aligned with Oman’s priorities.
The workshop has been designed to enhance technical expertise in Oman, helping participants master QGIS, Python programming and satellite image interpretation in line with international standards.
The workshop is open to Omani nationals with an interest or background in space sciences, GIS or satellite applications. It is aimed at startups and SMEs, government personnel, GIS analysts, IT professionals, job seekers and recent graduates.
Registration is open till August 27. Sessions will be held from 8am to 2:30pm daily.
