Duqm – Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) has opened traffic on a dual carriageway connecting Duqm Airport roundabout with crude oil storage tanks of Oman Tank Terminal Company in Ras Markaz. The road is expected to consolidate Duqm’s role as an international hub for investment and logistics.

The 42.9km road has two lanes in each direction, supported by 11.5km of secondary roads, including airport access routes and side roundabout links. The project runs alongside the Green Industries Zone and major projects under construction, while also linking to Dhahr village and the main road to Salalah.

Abdullah bin Salem al Hakamani, Director of Technical Affairs at SEZAD, said the project cost RO57.6mn. “Its opening marks a step forward in Duqm’s infrastructure, as it facilitates movement between key facilities, connects the airport with energy and industrial projects, and enhances the zone’s appeal to investors.”

He added that the project was completed in line with international standards and within schedule, providing a safer and more sustainable environment for economic and logistics activities.

According to Hakamani, the new road will improve SEZAD’s regional and global competitiveness by supporting logistics supply chains and enabling faster investment growth, particularly in energy, petrochemicals and support services.

Saif bin Saeed al Amri, Project Engineer at Tatweer, said the road project included a modern lighting network with intelligent management systems and integration with advanced electrical grids. It also features culverts for rainwater drainage, ensuring road sustainability and traffic safety in varying conditions.

The project supported small and medium enterprises, engaged local firms and created job opportunities. Officials said this reflected SEZAD’s wider role in boosting the economy beyond infrastructure by contributing to social and economic development.

The road opening underlines SEZAD’s commitment to expanding integrated infrastructure to support industrial, commercial and tourism projects, reinforcing Duqm’s position as a multi-sector economic hub.
