Muscat – The fifth edition of Oman Chef Competition has brought together an array of Omani culinary talent – from students to seasoned chefs – in a spirited celebration of the nation’s culinary heritage. Organised by Oman Tourism College (OTC) with backing from Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), the event aims to highlight the sultanate’s cuisine innovatively and sustainably.

A prominent platform for Omani chefs, the competition encourages participants to create dishes made with local ingredients and rooted in tradition. This year’s focus is on eco-friendly practices, with chefs challenged to explore Omani flavours in sustainable ways that honour the nation’s culinary legacy.

Dr Hamad Mohammed al Muhrzi, Dean of OTC, highlighted the competition’s importance as both a tribute to Omani heritage and an inspiration for culinary innovation. “This competition serves as a platform that encourages our chefs to blend tradition with modern techniques, preserving Omani flavours while reimagining the future,” he said. “We’re thrilled by the talent we’ve seen as these chefs honour and redefine our cuisine in exciting ways.”

Amira Iqbal al Lawati, Director General of Tourism Development, noted the competition’s role in advancing Oman as a culinary tourism destination. “This event celebrates Oman’s rich culinary heritage while highlighting the talent and creativity of our young chefs. Through this platform, we support the vision to position Oman as a destination for gastronomic tourism, elevating our cuisine on a global stage.”

Badriya Abdulrahman al Siyabi, Director of Sustainability and Local Content at Omran Group, stressed the competition’s alignment with Omran’s sustainability goals. “Omran Group is proud to support the Oman Chef Competition, which empowers Omani youth and fosters career pathways in the culinary arts. This initiative showcases Oman’s unique resources and potential while supporting sustainable tourism development,” she explained.

The competition features three rounds, with over 50 chefs participating this year. The initial round recently concluded, offering an impressive display of culinary creativity with chefs presenting traditional Omani dishes through fusion techniques and innovative presentations.

The annual event not only highlights the skill of Omani chefs but also contributes to Oman’s community development by building a globally recognised culinary culture and expanding opportunities in the culinary arts for young Omanis.
