Muscat – Royal Army of Oman (RAO) celebrated the centenary of the establishment of Sultan of Oman’s Artillery on Thursday in a ceremony held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs.

Upon arrival at the headquarters of Sultan of Oman’s Artillery, H H Sayyid Shihab was received by Maj Gen Mattar bin Salim al Balushi, RAO Commander, Brig Saif bin Said al Rashidi, Commander of Sultan of Oman’s Artillery, and senior officers.

The ceremony started with the Royal Anthem, followed by a Guard of Honour salute. Sultan of Oman’s Artillery personnel presented a military infantry parade, while the RAO band performed various musical pieces in celebration of the milestone.

A visual presentation highlighted the inception and history of Sultan of Oman’s Artillery since 1924, detailing its development, modernisation plans and training of its personnel to fulfill national duties. The celebration included a field and air show featuring historical and modern weapons, showcasing the artillery’s advancements in military technology.

The event concluded with a tableau symbolising the centenary, with attendees chanting, ‘Long live His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander.’

Following the ceremony, H H Sayyid Shihab and attendees toured a permanent exhibition showcasing the historical journey, achievements and advancements of Sultan of Oman’s Artillery.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Secretary-General of Ministry of Defence, Chief of Staff of Sultan’s Armed Forces, military and security service commanders, and personnel from various sectors.
