1 Aug 2024

Nizwa – Dakhiliyah governorate police command has arrested five individuals of Asian nationality involved in an electronic fraud scheme. The suspects contacted several expatriates, impersonating employees of a telecommunications company, and instructed them to complete certain transactions via their phones. This fraudulent activity led to unsuspecting victims disclosing personal and financial information.

The arrests were made following an investigation prompted by multiple complaints from victims. The police tracked down the perpetrators through a combination of digital forensics and traditional investigative methods. The suspects were apprehended in a coordinated operation across various locations in the governorate.

The authorities have urged the public to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages requesting personal information or financial transactions. They advise verifying the identity of the caller and contacting the company directly using official contact details before proceeding with any transactions.

Legal procedures are being initiated against the accused, who are expected to face charges related to fraud and impersonation.
