ROP concludes operations following shooting in Wadi Kabir on Monday night in which officer loses life

Muscat – In an unprecedented turn of events in Oman, six people lost their lives while three perpetrators were killed in a standoff that took place in the Wadi Kabir area of Muscat on Monday night.  

In a statement, Royal Oman Police said that working alongside military and security services, it had successfully completed operations in the vicinity of the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque.

‘The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of nine people, including five expatriates, a policeman and the three perpetrators.’

The Embassy of Pakistan in Oman said four of its nationals were killed and several injured in the attack.

Oman’s Foreign Ministry informed that one Indian national lost his life, while another was injured.

Twenty-eight people of various nationalities were injured, among them four officers – policemen and members of Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority – while performing their national duty, ROP stated.

The injured were transported to healthcare facilities for treatment, while investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the  attack, ROP added.

It extended its condolences and sympathy to families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, while thanking for the efforts and the cooperation of citizens and residents, which were crucial in containing the situation.

The Indian Embassy offered its sincere condolences to the family of its national who lost his life in the attack and stated that it stood ready to offer all assistance to the families affected.

Ministry of Health activated the Emergency Management Centre and Medical Response and Public Health Sector following the attack. Khoula Hospital was designated to receive the injured and was supported by specialised medical teams from The Royal Hospital and University Medical City. More than 50 specialists were called into action.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack and ROP stated no motive behind it.
