Muscat – Under the Ministry of Health, Oman Medical Specialty Board is actively advancing the health sector through 31 ongoing projects and initiatives in 2024, according to Dr Fatma Mohammed al Ajmi, President of OMSB.

Highlighting the board’s efforts in enhancing medical education and training to elevate healthcare professionals’ competence in the sultanate, Dr Fatma said these initiatives aim to strengthen partnerships with the private sector for medical education, develop training content utilising modern technology, and empower doctors with public health concepts and skills.

According to Dr Fatma, these strategic projects align with Oman Vision 2040’s health priorities, private sector engagement and governance enhancement objectives. OMSB is currently executing these initiatives alongside the Human Resources for Health Laboratory and other relevant authorities.

She noted that key projects include the Medical Training Development and Health Innovation, which is introducing innovative tools and programmes in medical education, and the National Centre for Examinations, which is providing professional classification exams as well as exams for specialty/fellowship programmes. The initiatives include the Digital Transformation Project, which is automating procedures to enhance service efficiency.

Currently, OMSB offers 20 specialised training programmes covering various disciplines from histopathology to pediatrics. A total of 705 doctors, selected based on international standards and ACGME-I requirements, are enrolled in these programmes.

Till date, the board has certified 1,364 doctors, including 1,351 in specialty programmes and 13 who graduated through local fellowship programmes. Trainees benefit from accredited training centres across the sultanate.
