Samail – Ministry of Health (MoH) laid the foundation stone for Samail Hospital in Dakhliyah on Wednesday.

The RO45mn five-storey hospital project will be constructed on an area of 250,000sqm, with built-up area exceeding 61,000sqm. Modern specifications have been carefully considered for its construction, adhering to international design patterns and global standards to create a unique contemporary structure distinct from conventional designs.

The foundation laying ceremony was held under the auspices of Hon Sheikh Abdulmalik Abdullah al Khalili, Chairman of State Council, in the presence of H E Dr Hilal Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, Sheikh Hilal Said al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, several members of Majlis A’Shura, walis of the governorate, and prominent individuals of Samail.

On the occasion, H E Dr Saeed Harib al Lamki, Undersecretary for Health Affairs in MoH, said that expanding specialised services and upgrading referral hospitals are a strategic initiative to achieve the targets of the Comprehensive Health Coverage Programme, a cornerstone of Oman’s healthcare strategy.

He informed that the programme is geared towards delivering healthcare at the secondary and tertiary levels, currently achieved through the establishment, replacement and enhancement of numerous hospitals across governorates.

The undersecretary pointed out that by the end of 2023, there were 265 healthcare institutions under MoH, including 194 health centres, 21 polyclinics and 50 hospitals, with a collective capacity exceeding 5,000 beds.

“Currently, the ministry is actively involved in the establishment of nine new hospitals across the sultanate,” H E Dr Lamki added.

On the occasion, Yousuf Ya’qoub Ambo Ali, Adviser for Engineering Affairs to Minister of Health, detailed the project’s components. “Samail Hospital will have 170 beds, outpatient clinics for all medical specialties, an accident and emergency department, a radiology department with state-of-the-art equipment, a physiotherapy unit, a nephrology unit, and a psychiatric clinic.”

Additionally, it’ll have a day care unit, a dental clinic, surgical and internal medicine wards, three fully equipped operating theatres and an intensive care unit. The project will include a comprehensive floor for gynaecology and obstetrics, a paediatric ward, a paediatric intensive care unit and a maternity ward.
