Muscat – Oman Across Ages Museum received over 350,0000 domestic and international visitors in 2023.

Inaugurated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in March 2023, the museum was built under the Royal orders of the Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

It is the largest of its kind in the region, offering visitors an interactive experience of the cultural and geographic diversity of the sultanate and includes galleries, a library, an auditorium, cafés, and social and research spaces.

Al Yaqzan bin Abdullah al Harthi, Director General of Oman Across Ages Museum, said, “The museum takes one on a vast, sweeping journey through time. Starting with the first settlers and ending in modern-day Oman, you fly through different ages, dynasties and civilisations.”

He informed that 95% of the visitors in 2023 were Omanis. “It confirms the community’s awareness and the interest of its members in this distinctive cultural edifice.”

He added that the museum will soon display a new collection, including a stick which His Majesty the Sultan gave to the museum upon its inauguration in March 2023. “It is the same stick carried by Sultan Qaboos bin Said when he laid the foundation stone of the museum.”

The museum will host an international photographer – who specialises in photographing collectibles – in January to hold a training programme for a group of Omanis engaged in the museum sector in the sultanate.

At the end of February, it will host the ‘Museum Building Conference’ – a global event that travels the world.

The museum will also be on the itinerary of a visit by participants of a conference on heritage and tourism, which will soon be organised by German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech).

“The museum currently has one of the largest restoration and preservation laboratories in the sultanate. We have special programmes for restoration and seek the help of experts from around the world for restoration work,” said Harthi.

The museum is open to the  public Saturday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm and on Friday from 1:30pm to 7pm.
