MHT launches ‘Kashtat Zawaya’ to boost adventure tourism in Oman

29 Oct 2023 MHT launches ‘Kashtat Zawaya’ to boost adventure tourism

Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), in collaboration with Al Ethar Projects for Organising Exhibitions and Conferences and Heroes Club, is set to host an exhibition called Kashtat Zawaya from October 30 to November 4.

The event will be inaugurated by Sayyid Firas bin Fatik bin Fahr al Said at Mall of Muscat on Monday.

Twenty businesses and organisations engaged in camping activities will participate, attracting adventure enthusiasts and those interested in touring equipment, domestic tourism, resort management, 4×4 accessories, auto repair and outdoor furnishings.

An MHT official stated, “We invite companies focused on camping to join the expo. The goal is to facilitate knowledge exchange among industry specialists and to cater to the needs of outdoor adventure enthusiasts.”

MHT’s initiative to hold this exhibition aligns with its broader objectives to promote adventure tourism. “Recently, we coordinated a sand dune walking adventure in Shuja al Jafwa in North Sharqiyah. This event celebrated Omani Youth Day and marked the onset of the winter tourist season in the governorate,” the official informed.

He confirmed that the sand dune walk was one of many activities planned from October 2023 to May 2024.

Over 150 enthusiasts, both local and international, participated in the sand dune adventure. The objective was to inspire Omani youth and sports teams specialising in this type of activity. “The event promoted tourism in the sandy regions of Bidiyah and Qabil wilayats,” he added.

MTH will be organising several winter tourism events in North Sharqiyah, capitalising on the governorate’s appeal as a seasonal destination.
