7 Aug 2023 By

Muscat – The current weather conditions are likely to continue over several parts of Oman with heavy rains and wadis expected to overflow, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Monday.

The latest weather maps and analysis of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre show that heavy rains are expected from afternoon until late evening in Dakhliyah, North and South Batinah, Dhahirah, North Sharqiyah, Buraimi, and Dhofar governorates.

The weather forecast states that thundershowers are expected to range between 20mm to 40mm and downdraft wind with speed ranging between 15 and 35 knots, which could lead to overflowing of wadis.

The Arabian Sea will be rough along the coast with maximum wave height of 4.5m and slight to moderate along the coast in other parts with maximum wave height of 1.75m.

In its forecast for Tuesday, the Met Office stated that partly cloudy skies were expected along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle. ‘Chances of convective clouds development and isolated occasional rain and thundershowers are expected over the Al Hajar Mountains.’

The Directorate General of Meteorology has advised individuals to avoid low-lying areas and wadi streams, urging them not to engage in swimming or attempting to cross them in order to ensure personal safety. It also called for children to not to be left alone when it rains and to prevent them from approaching water ponds and wadi streams.
