Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the National Museum, and the State of Palestine signed two agreements to showcase their history and culture through exhibitions and museums on Tuesday.

The first pact is for organising an exhibition and activities for ‘Oman Day’ and the second agreement provides for the establishment of a special corner about Palestine in the National Museum to highlight its history, civilisation and cause.

Coordination will take place later between the two sides regarding the venue and timing of the Oman Day exhibition.

The pacts were signed by Jamal bin Hassan al Moosawi, Secretary-General of National Museum, and Rula Maayah, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Palestine, in the presence of Dr Tayseer Ali Farhat, Ambassador of Palestine to Oman.

On the occasion, Moosawi said, “The museum seeks to highlight the historical relations between the two countries in addition to achieving cooperation in the museum and cultural fields.”

Regarding establishment of the Palestine corner in National Museum, he said that “it is affirmation of what is stipulated in the policies of the National Museum to enhance international cooperation through the exchange of objects and exhibitions”.

The Palestinian minister stressed on the importance of her visit to Oman, which comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of tourism and cultural heritage.

She expressed her appreciation for the great welcome and interest she received from Oman, “which is an honest expression of the strength of the relations between the two countries and the supportive stance pursued by the sultanate under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the Palestine cause and its people, who continue their struggle until their legitimate rights are achieved”.

On his part, Farhat said, “We look forward to developing cooperation and exchanging experiences with Oman in the field of antiquities, museums and tourism cooperation.”
