Paris – Oman has received a certificate listing the khanjar (dagger) on the Unesco list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The certificate was handed over to Dr Hamad Saif al Hammami, Oman’s Permanent Representative to Unesco, when he met Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of Unesco, in Paris on Wednesday.
Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Omani National Commission for Education, Science and Culture and the Office of the Permanent Representative to Unesco, worked on the inclusion of the khanjar, and crafts, skills and social practices related to it, in the Unesco list during the 17th session of the intergovernmental committee for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, held in Morocco in December 2022.
