Muscat – H H Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, presided over a ceremony to launch the Wosool project on management of electronic documents.

Wosool constitutes a significant component of Oman’s national digital transformation strategy and embodies the e-government approach towards the realisation of Oman Vision 2040.

H E Dr Hamad Mohammed al Dhawyani, chairman of National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA), said, “Wosool is one of the most important national projects related to digital transformation and includes all the characteristics necessary to manage a document from the moment it is created until it reaches its final destiny in an ideal manner complying with the National Procedures Manual for the Management of Electronic Documents.”

The project aims to unify policies, increase efficiency and effectiveness of government agencies, enabling them to communicate electronically and quickly, as well as protect data.

“The first phase of the project will include 20 government agencies that are in the process of launching the operational work, while we look forward to the inclusion of 38 other entities in the second phase,” H E Dhawyani said.

He added that the project received attention for harnessing expertise and capabilities in providing support and security of the National Defence Centre and security follow-up that guarantees the project’s ability to achieve its objectives in all fields.

Wosool constitutes a cornerstone initiative of digital transformation in the government sector. Besides enabling government departments to electronically manage their information records applying the latest global practices in the field, the new system will furnish a streamlined secure environment for data.
