Muscat – With active participation of the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman Post on Sunday launched four commemorative stamps on fresh water Omani fishes.

“These fishes are a sample of 23 species of fresh water fishes found in Oman,” said Saud al Jufaili, head of Marine and Fisheries Sciences at the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences in SQU, adding that “they are classified into 15 genera, 10 families, seven ranks and one sect”.

These fishes are found in wadis, caves and natural wells, along with salt marshes and artificial dams in three regions of Oman, including Al Hajar Mountains, Dhofar Mountains, and the southwestern coast and the interior regions.

“SQU is conducting more studies together with the Iranian University of Shiraz.”
