Muscat – More than 3,600 visitors from Oman travelled to Sri Lanka in 2026 (recorded until September), marking a significant increase in arrivals from the sultanate, officials said at a tourism roadshow held at Al Falaj Hotel on Wednesday.

The Discover Sri Lanka roadshow brought together travel agents and tourism professionals. A presentation highlighted Sri Lanka’s attractions, cuisine, culture and diverse experiences for international visitors.

In an online address during the event, Chamila Jayaranthna, Deputy Managing Director of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, said the country offers a wide range of options for travellers from the GCC. “Sri Lanka is one of the best destinations, offering many options. While India remains a major source market, we also receive a growing number of visitors from the GCC, including Oman.”

According to tourism officials, around 3,600 visitors from Oman travelled to Sri Lanka in 2026 by September, compared to about 2,600 during the same period in 2025, reflecting an increase of approximately 38%.

Jayaranthna said the island nation caters to both families and couples, offering experiences ranging from mountains, beaches and forests to wildlife and cultural attractions.

“Sri Lanka is a friendly country with lots to do for families and couples. It is also an attractive destination for weddings and honeymoons, with mountains, seas, forests, wildlife and culture all within one destination,” he said. He added that the availability of halal restaurants also makes the country convenient for visitors from the GCC.

Direct air connectivity is another factor supporting tourism between Oman and Sri Lanka. SalamAir operates daily direct flights from Muscat to Colombo, with the journey taking approximately four hours. The roadshow aimed to strengthen ties with Oman’s travel trade and encourage more visitors to explore Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings.
