Salalah – President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda on Tuesday visited the Museum of the Frankincense Land in Salalah as part of his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

He was received upon arrival at the museum by H.E. Eng. Ibrahim bin Said Al Kharousi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage, along with a number of ministry officials.

The President and his accompanying delegation toured the museum’s galleries, where they were given a detailed briefing on its collections, halls and exhibits highlighting the cultural and historical heritage of Oman and the deeply rooted civilisational legacy spanning different eras.

During the visit, President Kagame viewed the History Hall, which comprises six main sections and showcases exhibits reflecting the distinctiveness of Omani identity.

The tour began with the Geography of Oman section, which presents maps and key information on the Sultanate’s topography and diverse environments. This was followed by the Oman in Ancient Times section, which documents archaeological evidence of human settlement, the development of crafts and economic activities, as well as the flourishing copper trade and Oman’s relations with the civilisations of Mesopotamia, India and China.

The President also visited the Land of Frankincense section, which highlights the historic role of Dhofar Governorate as a major centre for the production and export of frankincense. The trade in frankincense served as a bridge for commercial and cultural exchange extending to the Mediterranean and Red Sea regions and Mesopotamia.
