Muscat – Five years ago, security authorities in Oman received an urgent missing person report regarding two children, aged 14 and 16 years, who disappeared after leaving their family home.
Royal Oman Police teams carried out a thorough search and successfully tracked down the children, apprehending the criminals involved. Subsequent investigations revealed that the children fled their broken home due to ongoing domestic violence and abuse by their father and mother-in-law.
Seeking safety, the two children, escaping domestic violence, fell victim to digital trafficking networks after seeking comfort and emotional connection through video games, where online predators actively target vulnerable youth.
Criminals exploited their lack of parental supervision and emotional vulnerability by using online platforms and fake trust to lure them into isolation.
Taking a taxi from Muscat, the children sought refuge elsewhere, but predators on gaming and entertainment sites exploited their vulnerability.
The first suspect and his accomplices lured the children, isolated them in a room, and manipulated them through digital networks. The children were severely abused and used as instruments for sexual and digital trafficking.
Following rigorous legal proceedings, the court delivered severe prison sentences and heavy fines ranging from RO1,000 to RO 10,000 to the defendants for child exploitation, rape, and aiding delinquency.
