Tehran – Iran and Oman are on the verge of finalising an understanding regarding maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that the two nations have agreed on almost all issues, including the location of entry and exit routes.

Under the planned arrangement, large parts of the designated shipping route will go through Iran’s territorial waters, while some sections will pass through Omani waters.

Existing temporary routes, such as the northern route near Iran’s Larak Island and the southern route in Omani waters, will be closed.

Furthermore, the planned arrangement for the new Hormuz route will operate for a period of two to four months or potentially longer.
