USA – US President Donald Trump announced that negotiations with Iran, likely conducted through intermediaries, are set to begin on Monday afternoon.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump explained that discussions were prompted after conversations with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran led him to call off a planned massive military strike.
The president emphasised his preference for making a deal rather than taking lives, noting that the diplomatic approach aims to save many people.
Furthermore, Trump indicated that the upcoming discussions could yield agreements regarding the management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz as well as the denuclearisation of Iran.
