Muscat – Oman Society of Astronomy and Space has highlighted the Delta Aquariid meteor shower, which stands out as one of the most prominent annual summer meteor showers.

Renowned for its fast-moving meteors, this celestial event captivates astronomy enthusiasts and skywatchers by adorning the night sky annually from July 12 to August 23.

The shower is projected to reach its peak during the nights of July 30 and 31, originating from the 96P/Machholz Comet. Observers can anticipate an ideal rate of approximately 15 to 20 meteors per hour travelling at a speed of around 41 km per second, with the radiant point located near the constellation Aquarius.

While observation is strongly recommended after midnight, the current full moon phase with roughly 99.8% illumination means moonlight may obscure some of the fainter meteors.
