Muscat – The Oman men’s national volleyball team has achieved its highest-ever position in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) world rankings, climbing to 69th highlighting the rapid rise of the sport in the sultanate and the team’s growing competitiveness on the Asian stage.

The historic ranking follows a series of strong international performances and years of sustained investment in player development, coaching and technical preparations. It marks a significant milestone for Omani volleyball, which has steadily strengthened its presence in regional and continental competitions.

The national team now has an opportunity to make another major leap. Winning the ongoing West Asian Championship being held in Muscat would earn valuable ranking points and could propel Oman towards the world’s top 50 for the first time.

Oman has also qualified for the Intercontinental Championships in Japan, where it will compete against Asia’s leading teams. The tournament offers a pathway to qualification for future FIVB World Championships and provides invaluable experience against higher-ranked opponents.

The current qualification cycle also leads towards the 2027 FIVB Men’s World Championship in the Philippines, while the subsequent edition of the competition will award the champions direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games – an achievement that would represent a historic first for Omani volleyball.

The team’s rise from a developing nation to a respected competitor reflects the progress made by Oman Volleyball Association in recent years and signals a promising future as the sultanate seeks to establish itself among Asia’s volleyball elite.
