AmCham Oman and Salalah Free Zone highlight Sultanate’s strategic economic resilience as a global hub

21 Jul 2026 AmCham Oman and Salalah Free Zone Host Webinar

Muscat – In alignment with Oman’s ongoing economic diversification and vision for long-term industrial growth, AmCham Oman, in partnership with Salalah Free Zone (ASYAD Group), recently hosted a high-level webinar mapping out the country’s strengthening role as a steady anchor for international commerce. Titled “Navigating Uncertainty: Strategic Opportunities in Salalah Free Zone,” the session brought together local and international business leaders to examine the competitive infrastructure driving investment into the Governorate of Dhofar.

The session was led by Khalid Jaboub, Senior Specialist of Business Development at Salalah Free Zone, who detailed the zone’s unique 21.6-million-square-meter ecosystem and its seamless connectivity to the vital Europe-Asia trade corridor.

As global businesses continue to adapt to shifting maritime trade routes, the discussion highlighted Salalah’s highly advantageous position outside the Strait of Hormuz. Offering direct access to the open sea, the zone serves as a vital bypass hub that ensures trade predictability and business continuity. Furthermore, Jaboub emphasized Oman’s rising global profile, pointing to the nation’s recent ranking as number 2 globally for quality of life.

A major focal point was the competitive operational incentives structured to support investors while fostering local economic alignment. Jaboub detailed the zone’s robust framework, which includes a 30-year corporate tax exemption, 100% foreign ownership, zero customs duties, and an investor-friendly 20% local employment (Omanization) requirement.

The presentation outlined immense investment opportunities across six core national growth sectors: pharmaceuticals, green hydrogen, mining, petrochemicals, food processing, and logistics. Landmark initiatives highlighted include the Ladayn Polymer Park which offers manufacturing tenants a 3% to 5.5% raw material rebate from OQ alongside land grace periods up to 2 years and Oman’s emerging status as a top-6 global destination for low-cost green hydrogen production, with three multi-billion-dollar green ammonia consortiums already secured at the zone.

“Helping businesses access practical insights and meaningful connections is central to AmCham Oman’s mission,” said Rebecca Olson, CEO of AmCham Oman. “Through partnerships like this with Salalah Free Zone, we aim to provide our members and the wider business community with the high-value data they need to make informed expansion decisions while showcasing the world-class advantages the Sultanate has to offer.”

Khalid Jaboub added: “Salalah Free Zone operates as a comprehensive global gateway. Whether it is utilizing our specialized 4.5km liquid transportation corridor, accessing rich local mineral deposits, or leveraging our ‘One-Stop Shop’ to fast-track commercial registrations in a single day, we are entirely set up to accelerate the timeline of international and local projects alike.”

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session covering practical setup logistics, where it was confirmed that the end-to-end process from arriving in Oman to fully establishing an SME or large enterprise takes a streamlined two to four weeks.
