18 Jul 2026 Oman to strengthen ASEAN ties at Treaty of Amity anniversary

Muscat – Oman will participate in the ministerial meeting marking the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Manila, the Philippines, on July 24 as the sultanate seeks to deepen political and economic ties in Southeast Asia.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Omani officials will hold a series of high-level bilateral meetings aimed at expanding political and economic partnerships, increasing trade and investment, and enhancing cooperation on regional priorities.

The participation underscores Oman’s growing engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its efforts to strengthen its role as a bridge linking Southeast Asia with the Gulf, Africa and international markets.

Discussions are expected to focus on cooperation in logistics, maritime transport, energy and green hydrogen, food security, tourism, digital transformation, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.

The engagement also supports the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in strengthening international partnerships, attracting quality investment and reinforcing the sultanate’s position as a global trade and logistics hub.

The Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, signed in 1976, serves as ASEAN’s foundational framework for promoting peaceful relations, dialogue and regional cooperation.

Oman acceded to the treaty in 2022 through Royal Decree No 7/2023, reaffirming the principles that have long shaped its foreign policy, including dialogue, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, adherence to international law and constructive international engagement.

These shared principles continue to underpin cooperation between Oman and ASEAN member states in support of regional stability, sustainable development and long-term economic growth.
