New York – During an open debate at the United Nations Security Council in New York, Oman reaffirmed that sustainable security and stability in the Middle East require addressing the root causes of conflict, with the Palestinian issue remaining the central factor. Representing Oman, Counsellor Khalid bin Saleh Al Rubkhi, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasised that the Palestinian people are still waiting for the international community to translate its principles into tangible reality. He stressed that achieving a just and lasting peace necessitates an end to the occupation, allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Oman highlighted that recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories have demonstrated the severe humanitarian and political cost of lacking a clear political horizon. The Sultanate called on the international community to move beyond rhetoric, urging a collective commitment to peace as a strategic choice. Oman pledged to continue its long-standing approach of wisdom, moderation, and respect for international law, supporting all diplomatic mediation efforts intended to build trust and create the necessary conditions for sustainable political solutions that ensure justice and stability for the Palestinian people and the entire region.
