Nizwa – The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has launched a joint inspection campaign targeting tyre shops in Dakhliyah governorate as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance market oversight and safeguard consumers.
The campaign, conducted in cooperation with the Consumer Protection Authority branch in Nizwa, focused on ensuring that tyres available in the market comply with approved technical specifications and carry the GCC conformity label.
Officials said the inspections are aimed at preventing the sale of substandard or non-compliant tyres and reinforcing safety standards in the local market, particularly ahead of the summer season when high temperatures can affect tyre performance.
Inspection teams checked tyre quality, manufacturing dates and storage conditions, in addition to verifying compliance with Gulf Standardisation Organisation requirements. Authorities also reviewed whether retailers were providing clear product information to consumers.
The ministry stressed that tyre safety is a key factor in reducing road accidents and protecting motorists, noting that regular inspection campaigns form part of broader efforts to improve product quality and strengthen consumer confidence in the market.
Speaking on how motorists can choose safe and reliable tyres, automotive expert Nasser Al Hosni said consumers should ensure tyres are suitable for Oman’s climate and driving conditions and avoid buying products based solely on low prices. He advised buyers to check the manufacturing date and confirm the presence of the GCC conformity mark, while also inspecting tread condition and tyre durability before purchase.
He added that purchasing tyres from trusted dealers and following regular maintenance practices can help improve road safety and extend tyre lifespan.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing market inspection campaigns across the sultanate to ensure compliance with standards and protect consumer rights.
