Muscat – Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has released a formal awareness warning regarding a children’s coloured candle toy from the Addo brand due to the presence of substances that could harm children’s health. The specific product identified in this safety alert is the Addo Creative Candles – Edition Four, which carries the model number B-19180-318 and was manufactured in China. Following detailed test results, authorities identified the possible presence of trace amounts of asbestos within the product. This substance is widely recognised for its severe and harmful health effects upon exposure, making it particularly dangerous for use by children.
In response to these findings, the Authority conducted extensive field search and inspection operations through official enforcement channels across the Sultanate. Investigations revealed that there is no authorised local distributor for the Addo brand product within Oman. This suggests that the hazardous items likely reached local markets through unofficial means, such as online shopping platforms or individual importation from neighbouring countries. The Authority has consequently urged all consumers to immediately stop using the affected candle toy and to prevent children from handling it to ensure their safety.
Furthermore, the Consumer Protection Authority has emphasised the necessity for parents and guardians to verify the safety and origins of children’s toys prior to purchase. The public is advised to follow all instructions and warnings issued by competent authorities to avoid exposure to unsafe products.
