22 Apr 2026   160 volunteers join beach clean-up campaign in Muscat

Muscat- The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, represented by the Directorate General of Fisheries Resources Development, carried out a beach clean-up campaign across Muscat Governorate on Tuesday under the slogan “Clean Beach… Safe Sea and Sustainable Resources.”

The initiative covered the wilayats of Seeb, Bausher and Quriyat and witnessed strong community participation as part of efforts to curb marine pollution and promote environmental sustainability.

The campaign aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage responsible behaviour when using beaches, while reducing practices harmful to the marine environment and supporting the sustainability of fisheries resources. More than 160 volunteers from various segments of society participated in the initiative in cooperation with government entities, municipalities and volunteer groups.

The activities included clearing several coastal sites of plastic, metal and glass waste as well as discarded fishing gear. Awareness programmes were also conducted to highlight the importance of protecting the marine environment.

The campaign forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community partnerships and reinforce environmental sustainability.
