Mudhaibi – Environment Authority (EA) has released an official statement following reports circulating on social media regarding the sighting of an Arabian caracal in the Wilayat of Mudhaibi. The animal was observed in the village of Samad Al Shan, prompting officials to clarify that this species is considered endangered and is fully protected under the national laws of Oman.
Authorities noted that the caracal is naturally solitary and shy, posing no significant threat to humans or personal property, as its diet primarily consists of wild rodents and rabbits. This sighting is regarded as a positive indicator of environmental health and biodiversity within the region. The public is strictly advised against approaching or attempting to hunt the animal, and any sightings should be reported immediately through official environmental channels.
