The United States delegation departed Pakistan early on Sunday after talks with Iran ended without reaching an agreement, following more than 20 hours of negotiations in Islamabad.
US Vice President JD Vance, who led the American delegation, confirmed in a brief press conference that the discussions concluded without a breakthrough. Footage later showed Vance and members of the delegation boarding their aircraft and returning to the United States shortly after the announcement.
Vance said the negotiations lasted approximately 21 hours and involved intensive discussions between the two sides. However, he noted that the Iranian delegation rejected US conditions related to halting the development of nuclear weapons.
He added that the talks were conducted in continuous coordination with US President Donald Trump and senior officials in the American administration.
According to Vance, Washington’s key demand was a clear commitment from Tehran not to pursue nuclear weapons or develop capabilities that could enable their production. He stressed that this requirement remains a central objective of the US administration.
“The goal of these negotiations was to achieve that commitment through diplomacy,” he said, adding that the talks ultimately concluded without a deal.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state broadcasting authority reported that what it described as “unreasonable demands” by the United States led to the collapse of the negotiations in Islamabad aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on Telegram, the Iranian side said its delegation had negotiated intensively for 21 hours to defend national interests, but the US demands prevented any progress, bringing the round of talks to an end without agreement.
