Muscat – Oman’s hockey team qualified for Asian Games 2026 in Japan after defeating Hong Kong China 2-1 on Monday in the Men’s Asian Games Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand.

The victory marked Oman’s third successive win in Pool A, securing the maximum nine points and confirming the top spot in the group standings. Indonesia finished second with six points, followed by Hong Kong China on three, while Thailand and Kazakhstan collected one point each.

Oman began its campaign with a 4-1 win over Indonesia before edging Thailand 2-1. The decisive fixture against Hong Kong proved closely contested.

Both sides battled for control in midfield during the opening half, with Oman breaking the deadlock through a well-worked move. Hong Kong responded to level the score, keeping the contest evenly poised at half time.

Oman raised the tempo after the restart and capitalised on a key opportunity to regain lead. Disciplined defensive display and composed game management ensured the narrow advantage was maintained until the final whistle.

Osama bin Ramadan delivered a standout performance and was named Player of the Match for his decisive contribution.

The qualifiers featured ten teams divided in two groups. Pool A comprised Oman, Hong Kong China, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Indonesia, while Pool B included Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.
