Muscat – Oman has begun early preparations for its participation in 31st Conference of the Parties (COP 31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, bringing together national teams responsible for negotiations, climate initiatives, youth engagement, media and logistics as it seeks a more coordinated presence at the global climate summit.

The Environment Authority on Wednesday organised the first workshop for national implementation teams and participants preparing for the COP.

The session focused on assessing readiness, reviewing responsibilities and strengthening coordination among the different teams involved in Oman’s participation.

A Supervision and Governance Team presented the framework for overseeing the national effort, including mechanisms for coordination, follow-up and cooperation between participating groups.

The Negotiation Team outlined preparations for climate talks, including efforts to coordinate Oman’s positions and track priority issues expected to feature in international negotiations.

The Media Team presented plans to highlight national initiatives and projects in climate action and sustainability, while strengthening communication around the delegation’s key messages.

Preparations are also under way for an Omani pavilion at COP31, which will be used to showcase projects, initiatives and solutions related to climate action and sustainability.

The Youth Team is working on highlighting the role of young Omanis in climate initiatives, while the Innovation and Indicators Team is focusing on innovation-related programmes and measurements to assess progress against the objectives of the country’s participation.

The workshop also reviewed logistical and technical requirements needed to support the delegation during the conference.

Participants emphasised the need for closer integration between the negotiation, media, organisational, youth and innovation tracks, arguing that a unified approach would strengthen Oman’s effectiveness at the summit.

The preparations are also intended to position COP31 as a platform for expanding international partnerships, exchanging expertise and presenting Oman’s climate and sustainability efforts to a wider audience.

For Oman, the conference will provide an opportunity not only to participate in global climate negotiations but also to align its international engagement with national development and sustainability priorities.
