Muscat – The new Samail Hospital project in Dakhliyah has achieved more than 89% completion, marking a major step towards strengthening healthcare services in the governorate.

The project is expected to provide integrated and specialised healthcare services while significantly increasing bed capacity compared with the existing hospital.

Yusuf bin Yaqoub Ambu Ali, Director General of Projects and Engineering Services at the Ministry of Health, said the hospital is being built on a 250,000sqm site, with the total built-up area covering around 66,000sqm. The total investment is estimated at RO45mn.

The hospital will initially provide 170 inpatient beds, with a total capacity of 252 beds. The facility has also been designed to allow for future expansion, increasing capacity to 300 beds.

The main hospital building comprises a basement and four floors and will include five operating theatres, an accident and emergency department, outpatient clinics, radiology services, central laboratories, dialysis, physiotherapy, a burns unit and specialised centres.

It will also feature operating and endoscopy units, as well as intensive care facilities for adults, children, premature infants and cardiac patients.

Ambu Ali said significant progress had been made across the various work packages. The structural works and main building structure have been completed, while façade and external works are at an advanced stage.

Electromechanical installations, internal finishing works and the outfitting of various departments and services are currently under way.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to the current schedule. However, the start of services will depend on the completion of construction and medical and technical installations, followed by testing, trial operations and fulfilment of all operational readiness requirements.

The new hospital is expected to expand the range of healthcare and specialised medical services available in Dakhliyah and increase the overall capacity of health institutions in the governorate.

It will provide a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical services, along with critical care, helping accommodate more patients and cases, particularly those requiring specialised treatment, surgery or intensive care.
