Salalah – Oman Film Society has announced the honourees for the second Dhofar International Film Festival, which will be held in Salalah from September 6 to 9.

Organised in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Dhofar Municipality, the festival will coincide with cultural and tourism activities during Dhofar Khareef 2026.

Anwar bin Khamis Al Ruzaiqi, Chairman of Oman Film Society, said the event aims to support the film industry while showcasing Oman’s cultural and natural attractions.

He said the society is keen to establish the festival as a platform for filmmakers and young talent, providing opportunities to screen their work and exchange experience with counterparts from abroad.

Al Ruzaiqi added that the festival also seeks to promote Dhofar as a filming destination and attract investment in cinema and visual arts.

The festival has selected Mohammed bin Ali Al Nahari, Chairman of the Omani Council for Cultural Thought, as its Festival Personality for this edition in recognition of his contribution to cultural and creative initiatives.

Several regional and local artists and media figures will also be honoured, including Egyptian actress Bushra and Kuwaiti actress Haya Abdel Salam, Dhofar-based artists Salah Obaid, Salim Al Amri and Hilal Al Araimi, as well as media personality Abdullah Al Sabah.

Organisers said the honours recognise their contributions to visual arts, media and community issues.

Held under the slogan ‘Be part of the event’, the festival will feature screenings of participating films, specialised training programmes and discussion sessions bringing filmmakers together with audiences.

The event is intended to strengthen Oman’s filmmaking ecosystem by giving young Omani talent access to training, professional exchanges and opportunities to engage with filmmakers from the region and beyond.
