Al Khabourah – More than 220 packs of Omani Raqaq bread prepared for distribution have been seized in Al Khabourah after authorities detected the manipulation of expiry dates on the products.

The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North  Batinah Governorate, represented by the Consumer Protection Office in Al Suwaiq, said the seizure was made as part of ongoing inspection efforts to protect consumers and ensure the safety of food products in the market.

The case came to light following a complaint from a consumer who reported suspected manipulation of expiry dates by an individual inside a vehicle parked in front of a commercial centre in Al Khabourah.

Judicial officers immediately went to the location to verify the report and confirmed the violation during an inspection.

The inspection found that the expiry dates on the Raqaq bread had been manipulated, a practice that could mislead consumers about the validity and safety of the products.

The individual was found in possession of more than 220 packs of Raqaq bread prepared for distribution. The products were also being transported under conditions that did not comply with health and safety requirements.

The Consumer Protection Office seized the products, issued an official seizure report and completed the necessary legal procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North  Batinah reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring markets and taking action against practices that could endanger consumer health and safety.

It also praised consumers for reporting suspected violations, stressing that public cooperation plays an important role in strengthening market oversight and protecting the community.
